THE Chase viewers have slammed the quiz show after a contestant was knocked out over an American expression question.

Fans of the ITV show claimed it was unfair that a show hopeful was asked a question with a very American answer.

During Wednesday’s episode, contestant Alun was head to head with chaser Shaun Wallace.

The controversial question determined whether Alun would return to the team and boost their fund to £18,000 or be knocked out of the competition.

Bradley Walsh asked: “Which of these is the act of accidentally phoning someone when carrying a mobile phone in your back pocket?”

The answers given were a) butt dial b) booty call or c) bottom ring.

Shaun got the answer correct with “butt dial,” while Alun chose “booty call” but admitted that he was expecting “pocket call” to come up instead.

The answer even left Bradley confused.

He said: “I’ve never called it that.

“Butt dial? Never heard of that. It’s tough to go out on that. Never heard of it.”

The moment left viewers claiming that the answer was too American.

One wrote on Twitter: “It’s not a butt dial. It’s a bum dial. We aren’t American#TheChaseUK #TheChase.”

Another said: “Only the Americans would use the term “butt dial” #TheChase.”

A third commented: “Nobody calls it a f**king butt dial either. #TheChase.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
