SINGER Katherine Jenkins has told how she was hit with a potentially life-threatening liver condition while pregnant.

She said: “With my second pregnancy there was a little bit of a complication. I got a thing called Cholestasis, I had itchy skin and at first I thought it was just stretching.

But she went on: “Eventually I had a blood test and I found that my liver wasn’t working properly which can have really serious effects.”

Katherine, 39, was diagnosed with cholestasis, where bile flow is disrupted. She added: “I had literally never heard of the condition before.”

The star, who safely gave birth to son Xander in April 2018, told the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast that the condition was deceptive.

“I had literally never heard of the condition before and I didn’t realise it was serious and I think it’s something that people should talk about more,” she said.

She is urging mums-to-be with itchy skin to “go get a blood test”.

Her chat with Giovanna Fletcher, 34, for the show also saw her discuss the death of her father Selwyn, who passed away from cancer when she was 15-years-old.

The classical singer told how her biggest fear would be not saying goodbye to her children Aaliyah, four, Zander, one, and her husband Andrew Levitas.
