JOSE MOURINHO has set his sights on becoming the first boss to win major trophies at three English clubs.

And that could be of huge interest to Arsenal if they find themselves looking for a new manager soon.

Mourinho is waiting for the right job to come along before making a return to the dugout after leaving Manchester United last year.

Staying in the Premier League is an option that interests him because it could see him leave a lasting legacy on the game.

No manager has delivered league titles or European trophies for three clubs in England before, and if Mourinho could do that his status in the game would be hard to ignore.

With Mauricio Pochettino eyed by both United and Real Madrid, Tottenham already know Mourinho is an option they can turn to if they find themselves needing to replace their boss.

But with Unai Emery under increasing pressure at the Emirates, it is Arsenal who could soon find themselves having to bring in a new manager.

And Mourinho’s availability, plus the North London club’s need to back up their obvious attacking quality by adding some steel to their squad, may make the two a perfect fit.

The organisation and leadership the 56-year-old brings are exactly the qualities the Gunners are crying out for, with Emery looking as though he has done nothing to improve on the weaknesses left at the end of Arsene Wenger’s reign.

And unlike a host of other clubs and national teams who have approached Mourinho since he left Old Trafford last December, the challenge of reviving the fortunes of a club of the stature of Arsenal could be just the kind of role to get his juices flowing.

Having won the Premier League at Chelsea and delivered the Europa League for United, it would be a huge feat if he could deliver similar success at a third club in the country.

The Portuguese has rejected a string of offers over the past 10 months because they were not the right fit, while any links with a Real return have been cooled with Zinedine Zidane still in position.

But he has spoken openly of his love of the English game and has made London his home – another factor that could help Arsenal sell themselves.
