DEAR DEIDRE: I AM a boy of 18 but I’ve never had a girlfriend. I see a lot of females but I never make a move.
I am in college and have a big workload. Other people of my age who live here don’t want to study, have little education and take drugs. I have nothing in common with them.

Most of the guys I know have girlfriends, although not the sort of women I would find attractive.
I so want a girlfriend, though. I am the shy type and I find it very difficult to find new friends, especially girls.
There must be something I can do to get out of this rut.
DEIDRE SAYS: There must be some social or sporting activities connected with your college.
Push your boundaries and try something new, especially something which might interest girls, too.
Voluntary work can be a great way to make friends of both sexes, plus looks good on your CV. Your college may organise this or visit do-it.org.
My e-leaflet Teens Guide To Socialising will help, too.
