WALKING is free, great exercise and the Greek physician Hippocrates called it “man’s best medicine”. A new study has found those who take 7,000 steps a day live longer and enjoy better sleep.
This week we test hiking kits for those braving the British weather, plus combination hair stylers, which dry, curl and smooth.

- Forclaz 1 Mountain Hiking Pole MH500 Blue, £12.99 – buy now
Worked a treat when the going got tough as the adjustable height and external lock made me feel like I had an extra leg and the support was even better climbing down.

It was a great, speedy, supportive addition to my walk. Great value and I’d definitely recommend it.
- MQM Flex Gore-TEX, £115 – buy now
These trainers are extremely light and on rough terrain it had excellent grip.
They pack all the necessary technology into one breathable, protective shoe.
They are pricier than some, but worth the money.

And I loved the colour.
- Quechua NH100 30L backpack – maroon,£12.99 – buy now
With four zip pockets, two water bottle holders, a pole holder and outer elastic for jackets, and plenty of room, there’s not much else needed for a day pack.
The shoulder and waist straps were comfy and the amount you can fit in make it ideal for an overnight stay.
Budget

- Revlon, One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser, £39.98 – buy now
It claims to get perfect locks in half the time. And it delivers.
This reduced how long it took me to get ready – there was time for an extra cuppa before my morning commute.
My hair was left completely dry, smooth and sleek.
Brilliant and, if you are on a budget, this is the one to buy.
Mid

- InStyler, Max Prime Revolving Styler £89.99 – buy now
This has four adjustable heat settings up to 215C and the barrel rotates in two directions to ensure even heat distribution.
Simply click a button to instantly change the rotation, which is a nice touch.
I’d recommend this one for those with frizzy hair – as my locks were left super smooth and shiny.
Luxury

- BaByliss Smooth and Wave Styler, £86.67 – buy now
Super easy to use and I could click between smooth or wavy hair at the touch of a button.
This is the priciest, but if you have the cash and want curls this is the one to buy.
Worth every penny for salon-style locks and definitely my favourite of the three.
