Here, Anthony Chapman delivers his player ratings.

KEPA ARRIZABALAGA – 6

Spaniard didn’t have much to do this evening but looked competent when called upon to gather up some Ajax shots on goal.

CESAR AZPILICUETA – 7

Captain made his 350th appearance for Chelsea and put in some crucial tackles in his penalty area.

KURT ZOUMA – 6

Looks more comfortable as a right-sided centre-back and was composed with his passing.

FIKAYO TOMORI – 7

Already a big player for Frank Lampard and was commanding in the air despite an early mistake.

MARCOS ALONSO – 6

Made some good charges up the left flank but appears to be tiring after his recent run in the side.

MATEO KOVACIC – 6

Tidy in possession but failed to utilise his great dribbling skills.

JORGINHO – 6

Led the midfield but sometimes found himself chasing shadows in the centre of the pitch.

MASON MOUNT – 7

Aggressive and always on the front foot, Mount had his most bruising game for the Blues and was constantly ticked off by the ref… but Lamps looked to be loving it.

WILLIAN – 6

Some decent runs drifting off the right wing but looked knackered when taken off in the second half.

TAMMY ABRAHAM – 6

Couple of good touches but failed to unsettle the Ajax centre-backs with his size and pace.

CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI – 7

Creative and exciting, the winger is just lacking Eden Hazard’s killer instinct when delivering his final ball.

SUBS

CHRISTIAN PULISIC – 8

Confidence is back and played the killer pass for the winner.

MICHY BATSHUAYI – 8

Belgian will be kicking himself after missing an absolute sitter but made up for it by bagging the decisive goal.

REECE JAMES – 6

Came on with minutes left to successfully help see out the game.
