OVER a dozen people have been arrested and charged following a garda operation targeting drug trafficking in Drogheda.
More than 35 ‘purchases’ of drugs including heroin, cannabis and other controlled drugs of varying value, were made to date on the Louth town’s streets.

As a result, 14 people have been arrested and charged with Drugs Trafficking offences, principally the Possession of Controlled Substances for Sale or Supply.
They are all expected to appear before the Drogheda District Court tomorrow.
Operation Polygon was initiated in mid-2019 to by Senior Garda Management to target the trafficking of drugs in the area.
It was a continuation of an ongoing collaboration between Garda units in the Drogheda District and Louth Division and various national units.

Chief Superintendent Christy Mangan stated: “This is an excellent example of the significant ongoing efforts of local Garda personnel fully supported by National Units in the ongoing battle against organised crime in the Drogheda and surrounding areas.
“There will be no let-up in the efforts of An Garda Siochana to reassure the people of Drogheda that those involved in this type of criminality will be targeted in every way possible and brought to justice.”
Meanwhile, Gardai launched an appeal to retailers in shops throughout the country to make sure their staff are aware of potential fraudulent behaviour.

The warning comes following a recent increase in credit card related fraud at retail premises in North Dublin.
Over the past number of days in the Balbriggan area alone, there has been five incidents reported to gardai of credit card related fraud.
These incidents involve customers using cards with either just card details and no card present, or a card that has been present but has passed its expiry date.
